Jessica Pegula is showing off her credentials at the US Open. On the flip side, she’s trying her best not to. The American star has had enough of carrying the ‘billionaire’ tag around her. While sitting on a mammoth bank account rarely discontents anyone, Pegula isn’t looking to enrich herself and enjoy an extravagant lifestyle at the cost of her multi-billionaire parents.

Making waves at Flushing Meadows, the No. 6 seed entered into the second week of the hardcourt Slam without dropping a set. Pegula advanced to the quarterfinals after registering a commanding straight-set victory over Diana Shnaider, 6-4, 6-2, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Following her triumph, the 30-year-old was presented with a hilarious question during her post-match presser.
Notably, a reporter asked Pegula whether she comes under fire after fans assume she gets chauffeured around in a limo. Amused by the question, the American superstar said it’s “outrageous” for fans to think she has servants waiting on her hand just because her parents are multi-billion sports moguls. “People think I have a butler, that I get chauffeured around. I have a private limo, that I fly private everywhere. I’m definitely not like that.”

Furthermore, the former World No. 3 added, “It’s a little annoying, but honestly I just think it’s kind of funny because I don’t even know anyone that lives like that. It’s outrageous.” However, the American has found it easy to mostly separate her fortunes from those of father Terry Pegula. The oil magnate, who has a staggering net worth of $7.7 billion, owns NFL and NHL teams Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, respectively. Dubbed the world’s richest tennis player, Pegula has minted almost $15 million from her career which has also yielded six titles.

For those unaware, fans’ curiosity about the American pro’s personal life was piqued last week after the former shared an Instagram post, wherein she opted to ride a New York subway train rather than take a car. All things considered, all eyes will be laid on the No. 6 seed as she hopes to ‘bring her best tennis’ in the last eight.

Jessica Pegula on bowing out to Iga Swiatek twice in Grand Slam QFs – “It’s so tough”
Jessica Pegula will feel the wrath of a tough draw at the US Open. She is slated to lock horns with Iga Swiatek for a place in the last four. Considering the 30-year-old’s two of six quarterfinal exits came at the hands of World No. 1 Swiatek, Pegula will have to be careful. Treading on a thin line, the No. 6 seed hopes to inculcate her experiences from those losses in her upcoming encounter.

She said, “I’ll just try to draw from those experiences and kind of how I felt going into the next match, but it’s just so tough. I mean, I know you don’t want the cliche answer, but it’s just kind of one match at a time, and every day kind of feels different.”
The duo are scheduled to mark their attendance on the Flushing Meadows’ courts on Wednesday, September 4. What are your thoughts on Pegula’s chances? Do let us know in the comments.
