Tennis’ famous ‘Big 3’ comprising Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal have dominated the circuit over the last two decades. While the Swiss Maestro has retired and injury-stricken Nadal is in the twilight days of his career, Djokovic is still going strong at 36. The Serb recently reclaimed his No. 1 spot after winning the US Open title, his 24th Grand Slam victory. Heaping praise on him, Serena Williams’ ex-coach, Patrick Mouratoglou made an unconventional choice, snubbing Federer for Djokovic.

There has been a big debate raging on about the best player in the men’s circuit. Recently, the legendary coach gave his views about who was the best according to him.

In the 82nd episode of ‘The Eye of the Coach’ podcast, the French coach opened up about the technical side of things while comparing Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal. The 53-year-old revealed that he knew from the beginning that Novak Djokovic would succeed immensely with his playing style, picking him for success over even a top-form Roger Federer.

Talking about it further, he said, “I think I said when he was on 12 or 13 Grand Slams that Novak would win the most of all. He was dominant already. I thought at that time, he was superior. I knew that his body was in perfect shape. Novak’s game is not painful for the body. Novak is for me the perfect athlete for tennis. He’s a conqueror and a dominator, and he loves to prove people wrong.” But that’s not all.

Further, Mouratoglou went on to compare the qualities of the Big Three. He felt that Djokovic had an immense willingness to succeed and that separated him from the rest. Post Djokovic’s recent string of successes, Mouratoglou shared his thoughts on the G.O.A.T. debate.

Hours after the Serb’s triumph, Mouratoglou congratulated Djokovic and talked about who was the best player according to him. While giving his verdict, the ex-coach of Serena sounded confident.

He said, “I think it is always difficult to compare sports because I don’t know the other sports well enough to say that one sportsman is better than all the others in other sports. But definitely in tennis, there is no discussion about the fact that he is the greatest considering his achievement.”
