Earlier in April, both Simona Halep and Patrick Mouratoglou dropped a bombshell, as they announced their partnership as a player and coaching duo. It was surprising for everyone because Patrick was coaching Serena Williams for a long time. Since the announcement, the Romanian player played only two tournaments together, and the results were not that great. Despite the previous results, the pair is looking forward to playing their first Grand Slam together, as Patrick recently posted on his social media.

Later, Halep also shared the post on her Instagram story. The last time Halep had success here at the French Open was in 2018 when she was with her coach Darren Cahill. When Cahill was with Simona, she won her first Grand Slam title and also became the world no.1. Near the end of last year, they parted ways, and since then, she had plenty of coaches. After receiving a suggestion from Cahill, she started training at the Mouratoglou Academy. That was the beginning of Simona’s and Patrick’s partnership.

This year hasn’t been great for the former world no.1 player. After changing multiple coaches, she didn’t get the desired result. Also, she had a lot of injury problems last year, as she missed the Wimbledon championships, which she won in 2020.
After appointing Mouratoglou, she played the Madrid Open and the Italian Open. In the Madrid Open, she lost in the quarter-final to the eventual winner, Ons Jabeur. Then, in the Italian Open, she suffered a terrible loss in the round of 32.
Despite the results, she is looking confident ahead of her first-round match. Notably, she will start her campaign tomorrow and will play the German tennis player Nastasja Mariana Schunk in her opening match. Moreover, she could face Iga Swiatek in the fourth round, who is the tournament favorite. It would be interesting to see if she can get the best of an opponent like her.
