When Serena Williams Gave a Wild Tale of Defense as Sister Launched an Interrogation Involving 42-Year-Old Venus Williams

In a family, there are bound to be many memorable childhood moments that a person may laugh at. However, in a big family, there are bound to be a few relatively more moments. And so was the case with the Williams family. Serena Williams, other than her elder sister Venus, had 3 more sisters; including now deceased Yetunde Price. Consequently, a lot of memories, involving sibling fights, laughter, and certainly joy.

In her memoir, ‘Queen of the Court’ published back in 2009, Williams detailed one such incident. Though it may sound hilarious today, even for the American tennis legend, back in the day, it was a matter of contention between the sisters.

The Queen of the Court hit the book and online stores, back in 2009. However, a few excerpts from the book could still crack you up. And this incident, which sheds light on the fun-filled childhood of the American tennis legend, is certainly the one.

The incident of Hungry Howie Bread. One day, Williams’ elder sister, Isha Price, brought the pack home, and the Williams sibling couldn’t resist it. As they went on pinching from it now and then. And while eating the bread, the now 23-time Grand Slam champion, who was just a 10-year-old then, realized that her other sisters would be vying for the same. And hence curated the clever plan to get the most out of the pack. Yes, Williams took her share and hid it. And soon it was mayhem.

Her elder step-sister, Isha, came and had just one thing to say or rather scream, “Who stole the Hungry Howie Bread?”

And there were only two witnesses and suspects! Williams and her sister Lyn. And both tried to play it cool. But it seems Isha Price always had the lawyer’s acumen, as she didn’t let either of them off the hook. And made both the sisters Lyn and Williams trace their actions until they had her bread out. Surprisingly, Venus was not involved in this mischief.

Yes! Isha got the hidden bread from both Lyn and Williams; it wasn’t only the then-10-year-old Williams who had stolen the bread. Lyn also dirtied her hands for her love of bread. And to their surprise, neither had a clue of the other’s stack of hidden bread.

Certainly, a funny memory, as it still makes the ‘Queen of the Court’ crack up the moment somebody said the Case of Hungry Howie Bread.
