2-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep suffered a shock exit from the semi-final at the Wimbledon Championships 2022. She ended her impressive run on a bad note after losing to the Kazakh player, Elena Rybakina, in straight sets.

Later in the press conference, the Romanian player talked about being tired and changing her coaching staff too many times. Her current coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, recently opened up about her mental state at the moment after that shocking loss.

In an interview with Tennis Majors, the French coach said, “Simona was very tired physically and emotionally after four weeks in a row of competitive tennis. That was long. It was the end of this road and she struggled to find the resources needed to counterpunch such an opponent.”

“Wimbledon had started to become hard (for her) emotionally speaking… She collapsed on her serve even if her stats on this shot are far better than before. That’s the typical process when you are tired : you can’t find the energy to try new things, you’re back to how you did before,” he further added.

‘He Sent Me Confidence’ – Simona Halep on Patrick Mouratoglou’s Impact on Her Recent Resurgence at Wimbledon Championships 2022

Notably, Halep appointed Mouratoglou as her permanent coach back in April. Before that, he was the main coach of Serena Williams. It has been three months since they started working together and the result at the Wimbledon Championships will please them. Incidentally, this was the best result Halep had under Mouratoglou.

What’s next for Halep?

Last month Halep played her first Grand Slam tournament at the French Open with Mouratoglou. However, she lost in the second round after having a panic attack during the match. Recovering from that French Open disappointment, Halep looked like her former self, as she reached the semi-final of the Wimbledon Championships without dropping a single set.

However, the semi-final loss to Rybakina will definitely hurt her, as she made 9 double faults in the match and looked out of ideas. After just 1 hour and 16 minutes, she lost the match 6-3,6-3.

According to Mouratoglou, Halep will go on holiday next, and then she will play in Washington DC. After all that, she will look to challenge for the US Open title, which will take place at the end of August.
