Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur faced a life-threatening moment during last year’s Australian Open. Although the intensity of her illness is not known to the world, coach Issam Jellali vividly remembers it. In a recent documentary titled “This is Me,” Jellali mentioned the horrible incident when Jabeur required urgent medical assistance after her second-round match.

“I thought she’s gonna die,” Jellali expressed, as she reflected on the difficult situation. All of this happened after the 29-year-old lost to Marketa Vondrousova in Melbourne. The coach deeply described how Jabeur turned blue and was struggling to breathe, making the revelation even more terrible to imagine.

As the incident forced Jabeur to withdraw from the inaugural event, it not only marked a significant setback in her career but also made her go through a phase that could be referred to as a near-death experience.

While it was surely a difficult situation for the tennis fans to witness Ons Jabeur in such a critical condition, the tennis star still managed to keep the fans entertained with her witty response. On being asked about her recovery status, the tennis star jokingly pointed at her husband to work for the recovery.

“I’m going to make my husband work tonight for a lot of massage and good recovery,” she mentioned. As she noticed the crowd burst into laughter, she clarified her statement with a smile as she added, “Massage, guys! Massage!” This presence of wit amid challenging situations showed her high levels of positivity, marking a different side of the tennis star who takes up every challenge with a smile.
