Coco Gauff has become the new hope of Americans, and some assume that she might walk on the path of the Williams sisters. Rick Macci, the former coach of Venus and Serena Williams, sees great potential in the young player. However, he also feels that there are some loopholes in her game that need amending.

From beating Venus Williams at Wimbledon 2019 in the first round to being the finalist at the French Open 2022, Coco Gauff has come a long way.

Venus and Serena Williams’ former coach sees potential in Coco Gauff

Gauff has become an on-court favorite because of her astounding gameplay and happily quirky attitude. The player has not just performed well on the singles circuit but is doing extremely well in the doubles. She is currently world no. 3 in the doubles category and World no. 7 in singles.

In a recent interview, the former coach of Venus and Serena Williams talked about Gauff’s potential. He said, “Coco Gauff has a lot of ability. She has great foot speed, a great backhand, and some holes in her game that needs to be taken care of.”

When asked about who could dominate women’s tennis, Macci named her. He said, “If anyone of them could dominate, it would be Coco, cuz she has a little more firepower, and she’s younger.”

However, he also wants her to work on some other aspects that are creating hurdles for her. He said, “But there’s a little bit of a flaw on the forehand that needs to be corrected, and her serve- it’s a weapon but it’s a liability. It’s all biomechanics.”

How has Gauff been performing?

The American player reached her first grand slam finals at the French Open this year. However, the incumbent World no. 1 Iga Swiatek defeated her in straight sets. Apart from that, she also reached the quarter-finals of the US Open but could not get ahead after that.
