“Spent Days in Recovery Fighting For Her Life”: Serena Williams’ Husband Reveals Complications During Delivery of Olympia

Serena Williams has a special connection with her 3-year-old daughter Olympia. The mother-daughter pair is quite active and popular on social media, as Serena often posts about the day-to-day activities of her daughter there.
In a recent article, Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian wrote about the difficulties Serena faced during and after the birth of her daughter. Fans know that the tennis queen is a fighter on the court, but she proved that she is definitely a warrior off the court as well. Alexis highlighted that it took his wife many days before she could fully recover from her surgery.
“Then came Olympia, after near-fatal complications forced my wife, Serena, to undergo an emergency C-section. Serena spent days in recovery fighting for her life against pulmonary embolisms,” wrote Alexis in the article.

Olympia was born on September 1, 2017. Williams took a break from tennis that year shortly after winning the Australian Open 2017 – her last Grand Slam title. She was two months pregnant at that time but fought really hard to claim her 23rd major in Melbourne.
Alexis Ohanian discloses that Serena Williams was not able to walk after the delivery of Olympia
Alexis further revealed the post-surgery problems and challenges that his wife faced. He mentioned that she was under immense pain after the delivery of Olympia. He also stated that Serena was on constant medication after that and was not able to walk at all.
“When we came home with our baby girl, Serena had a hole in her abdomen that needed bandage changes daily. She was on medication. She couldn’t walk,” added Alexis.
