Maria Sharapova encountered numerous hardships to make it big in her career. From leaving her country, Russia, when she was less than 10 years old and facing a temporary ban from tennis due to the use of a prohibited substance, she came a long way to climb the ladder of success. However, her talent and wins were snubbed by her former manager, Max Eisenbud. He looked down at the Russian legend and disregarded her as one of the worst players he had ever witnessed.

Twitter is on fire as netizens exude their loyalty to the Russian legend

Fans have their own way of destroying anyone who speaks ill of their icon. Though Eisenbud owed his career to Sharapova, in ‘The Tennis Podcast,’ he degraded Sharapova by saying, “I mean, I tell people all the time, she?s probably the worst athlete that and I?ll tell her if she was here, the worst athlete to ever win a Grand Slam. And she can?t throw she can?t pass. She has no touch.”

This got on fans’ nerves, and Twitterattis came in unison to display their power and shredded Eisenbud’s statement to pieces.

A fan shared a heartwarming video of Sharapova and warned the Tennis agent to stay away from her.

A fan outrightly called Eisenbud a parasite for his twisted comments about the Russian star.

There is a good reason for the fans to give it back to the tennis agent as Sharapova did not have it easy in her career. She was recognized by another tennis legend, who also immigrated to the US to play professional tennis and made history with her game. The Russian worked for more than 12 years to reach the peak, and all of it was dismissed by one negative comment.

Maria Sharapova worked hard for almost 3o years before retiring in 2020

The 5 times Grand Slam champion started playing tennis before she even joined school. She held a racket when she was 4 and officially hung her racket when she was 32 years and 10 months old. The Russian embarked on her professional journey at age 6 when she met Martina Navratilova at an exhibition event in Moscow.

On Navratilova’s suggestion, Sharapova moved to the US and trained under coaches like Rick Macci and Nick Bollettieri, among others. The tennis prodigy signed with IMG when she was just 9 years old and was managed under Eisenbud for no less than two decades. The Russian star won her first Wimbledon Championships title when she was just 17 years old, by defeating the defending champion Serena Williams in straight sets.

Sharapova reached a career-high of WTA number one and held her ranking for 21 weeks. She achieved a total of 36 titles in her career and a silver medal in Women’s singles at the 2012 London Olympics. The Russian tennis legend also won numerous awards, including ‘WTA Player Of The Year,’ ‘WTA Most Improved Player of The Year,’ and ‘Best Female Tennis Player ESPY.’

‘The Siberian Siren’ is also the first tennis player ever to cross 15 million followers on Facebook. This explains the fury of fans over the ‘worst player’ comment and proves that Sharapova is one of the most loved Tennis players.

My journey as a sports writer could not have been more hyperbolic. Growing up, I buried myself in books and could not play any sport I wanted. So, I channeled my passion towards watching them extensively and imitating the players. My Master’s degree in Applied Psychology helped me understand the dynamics and thought processes of athletes. I enjoy watching the interviews of my favorite athletes as much as I enjoy their games. Gaining athletes’ perspectives helped me understand their gameplay better and why they chose a certain shot or made a specific decision. As an English literature and Journalism graduate, I tend to research extensively and store a lot of information that threatens to exhaust my memory. At ES, I have focused on writing elaborate perspectives, reporting interviews, controversial topics, and coresport news along with the occasional pop culture article. Movies, series, fiction, food, music, and painting are a few of the many things that keep my sanity in check. I highly anticipate current-generation tennis champions to spice the game up and create more on-court rivalries. I hope Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz, and Carlos Alcaraz achieve their best and carve a place for themselves among the tennis legends.
