Recently, after winning the first round of the tournament against Fernanda Contreras Gomez, the 27-year-old tennis player introduced everyone to her grandmother, who was present in the audience. Along with that, during an on-court interview just after the victory, Townsend talked about how her grandmother plays a very important role in her life, especially when it comes to connecting her family and tennis.

Townsend said, “She’s in charge of our family group text, so she texts everyone in my family, my scores, if I lose or win, usually when I win, so it’s okay. This is her first time watching me play live, it’s super special for me.”
