Chris Evert faces criticism regarding her commentary during Coco Gauff match at US Open 2022

Earlier, the journalist took to Twitter and wrote, “Chris Evert is as bad at calling game for Coco Gauff as she is Serena. Coco makes great shot. Silence. Coco makes mistake. She dwells on it. This is not hypersensitivity. This can be quantified across the whole match.”

Later, he provides a few videos to prove his point. During one point, the 18-year-old American played an amazing backhand; however, Evert stayed silent during that point. A few points later, Gauff made a double fault, and immediately, Evert pointed out that Garcia psyched Gauff out.

In another video, he showed that Evert remained silent while Gauff hit an ace. Then, at the next point, she criticizes the American player for watching her serve and not getting back to a return position. Later, many fans also criticized the former American player for the same behavior, and one fan even brought up her open letter to Serena Williams in 2006, where she criticized the 23-time Grand Slam champion’s off-court activities.

When Evert apologized for her open letter to Serena Williams

Back in 2006, Evert wrote an open letter to Serena where she slammed Serena’s various off-court projects. Notably, Serena was going through a number of injuries at that time, and her performance in Grand Slam tournaments had dipped.

Evert said, “It’s opened my eyes not to be judgmental and to each his own. Whatever makes you happy. By having other interests, maybe you won’t get burned out so quickly.

Safe to say, Serena proved Evert wrong, as she has won 23 Grand Slam titles in her career and retired as one of the greatest tennis players in history.
