Alexis Ohanian is the ultimate “dad goals.” Whether he’s flipping pancakes for his daughters or juggling his billion-dollar ventures, he somehow manages to balance it all with ease. But when it comes to his eldest daughter, Olympia, the tech-savvy dad takes his parenting game to a whole new level. And his latest bit of wisdom for her? Well, let’s just say it’s not about fairytales or Disney princesses—it’s about something far more futuristic: Artificial Intelligence!

The 41-year-old participated in an interview on the December 17th episode of the Jay Shetty Podcast. He deliberated on a wide range of issues pertaining to how technology is evolving and its impact on his personal and professional lives. Ohanian detailed that while technology has the ability to evolve at a very fast-paced rate, its impact can be mitigated with immense problem-solving skills, and it is one of the advice that he gives to his seven-year-old daughter as well.

Speaking in the interview, Ohanian said, “There’s lots of different areas where AI may not necessarily replace human work but is going to be an amazing superpower. So what do I want for my kid or even for anyone’s kid who’s entering a Workforce is probably to most importantly build skills that I know are going to be durable call it a decade or two from now.” Elaborating further, Ohanian added, “I just believe if you can be equipped and you can exercise those muscles around problem-solving and learning, you will be at the forefront for however this technology changes things. And you know that’s the advice we’re trying with Olympia, Adira is only one so we’re still there a long way.” He also shared how crucial it is to embrace discomfort as well.

I would say the more comfortable you can be in the discomfort of constant change, the better,” Ohanian added. And amidst the fast-paced technological environment, it can be rightly said that this advice is more valuable than the empire that Ohanian has built for his daughter.

Ohanian and Serena Williams’ elder daughter Olympia, became a co-owner of the Angel City FC National Women’s Soccer League franchise: WFC LA/Angel City beside her parents in 2020. Notably, Disney chief executive Bob Iger and his wife Willow Bay, became the new majority controlling owner of the team this year, valuing it at $250 million. Besides, in 2023,  Olympia became the co-owner of the Los Angeles Golf Club, the first team in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s tech-infused golf league, TGL, alongside her parents, when she was just 5 years old. Coming back to his take on AI, it is not the first time when he has made such a remark on the shift that AI can bring.

Ohanian believes that AI will make work more efficient. It’s a shift that’s already underway, as he described it as a major turning point for tech that’s unparalleled in recent history. However, he believes that through certain measures, humanity can be made to co-exist with robotics and one of these is Sports. “AI will change the way we consume content. But with sports, we will ALWAYS find a way back to our humanity,” Ohanian shared on X in July this year. And it is probably for this reason that the Reddit co-founder does not shy away from incorporating AI into the teaching-learning process for his elder daughter, Olympia.
