“Unforgettable” – Venus Williams Relives Triumphant Olympic Memory with Sister Serena Williams

The Williams sisters continue to be one of the most lethal pairs in women’s doubles history. Courtesy of their incredible chemistry, Serena Williams and Venus Williams have had a highly decorated career together on the court. The duo first paired up all the way back in 1997 and instantly established its dominance in the category. Since their debut, they have scored an astonishing 125-14 record against the competition and have a remarkable 14-0 record in the Grand Slam finals.
Reliving the good old days of their Olympic triumph, Venus Williams recently shared a post on her Instagram story.

“Most certainly unforgettable” – Venus Williams
The official Instagram handle of the Australian Open took fans down memory lane with a blast from the past. They won over fans with a throwback post including the iconic Williams sisters from the 2000 Sydney Olympics, along with other Olympic feats in tennis, captioning it, “Unforgettable memories.”
Sharing the same on her Instagram story, Venus Williams tagged sister Serena Williams and wrote, “Most certainly unforgettable.”

That night in Sydney
On September 28, 2000, the William sisters were crowned as the doubles champions in the Olympics for the first time. The pair decimated their Dutch opponents as the scoreline ended 6-1, 6-1.

It took the American duo just 49 minutes of play to create history and become the first sisters’ team to win Olympic gold in doubles. A little before the doubles finals, Venus had already conquered the women’s singles category; in less than 24 hours, she had won two Olympic gold medals.
The former World No.1 became the first woman since Helen Wills in 1924 to win both the Women’s single event and the Women’s doubles event. Hence, the tournament was far more memorable for Venus Williams.

Regardless, she believes nothing was more special than donning the championship medal alongside her sister, Serena. “For me, this is almost bigger than singles. To have a victory like this with Serena, my sister and best friend, doesn’t happen very often,” the champion said.
