The US Open in 2023 will be unique! This year’s hard-court Grand Slam competition will not feature Serena Williams, who has ruled the WTA Tour, unlike any other player in the open era. The American tennis legend retired from the sport last year on the Arthur Ashe Stadium, performing the last dance of her almost three-decade-long tennis career. However, even if Venus Williams‘ is competing in the event, it won’t be the same without the 23-time Grand Slam champion. Even though tennis fans will miss the 41-year-old American legend, the tournament has found a way to keep the Williams sisters connected to the US Open crowd.

The tournament is ready to bring in a celebrity chef who was inspired by the legendary Venus and Serena Williams.

According to the New York Post, the Bronx-raised Nigerian-American chef impressed New Yorkers with his restaurant, Tatiana, which was launched last year. But there’s more to the story; the Chef is also a huge tennis player and has watched the iconic Williams sister duo play on the same court since he was a child.

In addition, he also shared his feelings about becoming a part of the tournament. He said, “As a native New Yorker, it’s always an exciting time in the city. I went to the Open with my grandmother when I was 12 and saw Venus and Serena play. It was amazing. Tennis is a global sport, with elite players descending from all over the world.”

Since this will be the year when the 41-year-old American tennis star will watch the tournament from the comfort of her home or in the stands, let’s examine whether there is a chance that she will play tennis again any time soon.

Is there a ray of hope for Serena’s comeback?

Earlier this year, when the former tennis star appeared on CBS Mornings, she talked about her return to the tennis circuit. She revealed that she has no current plans to return to tennis. But she also left the door open by addressing how, at the moment, she has other things to focus on but is not quite sure about the future.

Not only that, last year in her essay for Vogue, she clarified that it wasn’t exactly a retirement. But for her, it was just an evolution away from tennis towards the other important things in her life. Subsequently, as she is ready to become a mother for the second time, in just a few months, her primary focus will be on her family rather than trying to make a comeback to this sport.
