Ons Jabeur of Tunisia is having an imposing 2021 season. Jabeur claimed her first WTA title at the Birmingham Classic thrashing Daria Kasatkina in straight sets in the finals. By doing so, she became the first Arab woman to accomplish a WTA title. She also reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2021 but fell short against Aryna Sabalenka.

The Tunisian is presently showing her skills at Chicago Fall Tennis Classic. She has successfully breezed into the semi-finals of the competition. On her way, she emphatically triumphed over some top-class players like Elina Svitolina and Jessica Pegula.

Ons Jabeur conquered over number one seed Elina Svitolina

Ons Jabeur is definitely having a spectacular 2021 season. After already claiming her first WTA title, Jabeur has set her foot now in Chicago Fall Tennis Classic. After an easy first-round win, Jabeur faced the experienced Jessica Pegula in the round of 16. Though she lost the first set, she came back strong to beat the American in a three-set match.

In the quarter-finals, she met the top-seed Elina Svitolina. The Tunisian took the challenge gracefully and won the contest. The straight-sets victory over Jabeur has placed her in the semi-finals of the tournament.

In the post-match conference, she said, “Intense match. I’ve known Elina since we were juniors, and also I’ve never won against her on the pro tour, so it was a very important match for me, since I’ve had my chances before. I tried to play my game, slice, drop shot, everything that I could do, but it’s never easy playing her. But I’m glad that I got the win in two sets.”

The Tunisian will face Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals

After an astounding win over Elina Svitlona, Jabeur has reached the semi-finals at Chicago Fall Tennis Classic. She will now face the fifth seed Elena Rybakina. The Kazakhstani entered the semi-finals after Belinda Bencic retired due to injury concerns in the quarter-finals.

The pair have encountered each other twice in their professional careers. Both have triumphed over 1-1 match, so the current head-to-head statistics stand at 1-1.
