“Way Better Than We Thought”: Iga Swiatek Looks Back at Wimbledon Championships 2021, Shifts Focus to Tokyo Olympics

Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek has penned her thoughts on her last-16 finish at the Wimbledon Championships and her run on the lawns this year.
Sharing a post on her official Twitter page, the current World No.9 said her grass season went a lot better than her own estimation.
Swiatek said every match on the surface is a learning curve and she hopes to come back wise and strong next year.

The 20-year-old, however, added that the fact that she treated the grass season as a learning experience doesn’t mean that the losses weren’t hard to take.
“Grass season…on the one hand it was way better than we thought. On the other hand it’s never easy to lose even if you treat it as a learning opportunity,” Swiatek wrote.

She added that her last-16 finishes at Eastbourne International and Wimbledon has given her the confidence of faring better next year.

The reigning Rome champion said it’s time to move on from the grass season and shift focus to the Tokyo Olympics, which would mark her maiden appearance in the quadrennial showpiece.
“Every hour on grass counts and next year I will have another chance for a better performance. Step by step. And now…it’s time for The Olympics!” the Pole further wrote.
Swiatek lost to Ons Jabeur at Wimbledon R4
With grass not her favorite surface in her own words, Pole surprised herself and her team by reaching the last-16 on the lawns on the back of emphatic, straight-set wins over Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan, Vera Zvonareva of Russia and Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania.
However, she ran into resurgent Tunisian Ons Jabeur who stormed back after losing the opening to eventually prevail in three sets.
The Pole started strongly and got herself a decisive break of serve to take the opening set.

Just when it seemed like she had one foot in the quarter-finals, Jabeur came out all guns blazing and overwhelmed Swiatek in the next two sets to storm into the last eight.
