‘We Believe In Good Association’ – Religious Venus Williams Once Disclosed Why She Preferred to Be Aloof From Other WTA Stars

American tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams have long been the face of American tennis. Over the years, they have amassed many records and made a brand of their own. While, if we look today, there’s a huge fan following and acceptance for the sisters, it was not always the case.
In their early days, the sisters were quiet and interacted very less. This, in a way, was hampering their popularity. Even though they performed well on the court, there was no significant fan following. Venus once addressed the situation in one of her interviews.

Venus Williams explained the role of her religion in her behavior
Many experts had an opinion that the reserved behavior of Serena and Venus is because of the religion they follow. Both Serena and Venus used to keep it within the family and it is one of the common features of their religion. Venus Williams also spoke about the same in one of her interviews.
“We believe in good association. That is association with fellow Jehovah’s Witnesses. Not becoming too involved with people that don’t have the same beliefs and same values that we do. We go to meetings three times a week. They encourage us. I don’t know if I can go house-to-house [evangelizing]. But I’m thinking about that,” she said.

Venus on balancing her obligations

Unlike her initial tennis days, the 42-year-old has multiple responsibilities now. She is still active as a tennis player and runs her business alongside. Recently, the 42-year-old participated in the US Open singles and also played doubles alongside her retiring sister Serena Williams. Although she lost in the first round of both matches, there definitely is a lot of preparation and practice that goes behind a big tournament.
Apart from that, Venus is also the face of her own fashion brand, EleVen by Venus. When asked about how she manages her obligations, the former World No 1 revealed that her life is not balanced.

She further added that she is happy with it because when people want to achieve things in life, they can not expect it to be perfectly in balance. Venus has not given up on her tennis career yet and we hope to see her back on the court soon.
