‘Welcome to the Presidential Palace!’ – Ons Jabeur Gets a Hero’s Welcome in Tunisia After Wimbledon Championships Achievements

Ons Jabeur is having one of the most successful seasons of her tennis career. In the recently concluded Wimbledon Championships, she reached her maiden Grand Slam final, in which she went down fighting against Elena Rybakina in the summit clash. Nonetheless, it was a tournament to remember for Jabeur, becoming the first Arab woman to reach a Grand Slam final.
Before her exploits at Wimbledon, Jabeur had already won two titles this year. She prevailed at the Madrid Open and the Bett1 Open in Berlin, apart from a consistent run across other tournaments. Recently, she received a massive honor from the Tunisian President, Kais Saied for her sporting achievements.

Ons Jabeur honored by the President of Tunisia
During an official ceremony, President Kais Saied decorated Tunisian tennis star, Jabeur, with the first class insignia of the Order of the Sports Merit.

The Wimbledon Finalist later took to Twitter herself and thanked the President for honoring her. She said, “Thank you to His Excellency President Kais Saied for his welcome to the Presidential Palace!”

It was Jabeur’s best performance at a Grand Slam in the recently concluded Wimbledon Championships. Earlier in her career, she had reached the Australian Open and Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Despite reaching the Wimbledon final, Jabeur dropped three places on the WTA rankings chart as ranking points weren’t on offer at this year’s Wimbledon. She is currently placed in the fifth spot in the WTA rankings.
Victoria Azarenka heaps praise on Jabeur
The former World Number 1 took to Twitter to praise Jabeur following her memorable Wimbledon campaign. She said, “One of the best things that happened to tennis is @Ons_Jabeur keep shining and sharing your light with the world! Biggest inspiration to so many!!!”

Meanwhile, Azarenka, a two-time Grand Slam champion, couldn’t participate in this year’s Wimbledon Championships. The tournament organizers had banned Russian and Belarusian players from playing this year owing to the Eastern European conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
