Richard Williams inculcated and enhanced the tennis skills of Venus and Serena Williams. The two sisters, who went on to change the course of women’s tennis, were raised under the aegis of their father. However, the relationship sometimes got a bit complicated. Once, during the filming of a 2012 documentary, a man came up claiming to be Richard Williams’s son.

Serena Williams has a large family consisting of siblings and half-siblings. On her father’s side, there were half-siblings outside the wedlock.

Serena Williams once decided to confront Richard Williams over a man claiming to be his son

Venus and Serena Williams shot a documentary which got released in 2012. The filmmakers followed the two sisters for a year to document the life of the two sisters who changed the face of women’s tennis. However, during a scene, a man came up claiming to be Richard Williams’ son. To this, Serena outrightly admitted, “That guy on the court? I don’t know who that is.” She wondered, “Why is this guy calling him dad?”

Instead of just guessing, she decided to ask her father directly and said, “I’ll ask my dad though. I don’t know how many siblings there are.”

The family tree of Williams is a bit complicated. Venus and Serena Williams have three step-sisters from their mother’s side. However, their one sister, Yetunde Price, passed away after she was shot in 2003 in Compton. On their father’s side, they have three half-brothers and two half-sisters. Moreover, Richard Williams had a fourth son in 2012 from his most recent wedding and also a son out of wedlock.

Well, it is not an unknown fact that the Williams sisters contributed to the growth of women’s tennis. When Venus and Serena Williams entered the tennis realm, there were apprehensions regarding their performance. However, one by one, the two players went on to not only break all the baseless assumptions about them but also set a new standard. Wozniacki, in a podcast, raved about the ultimate role the two sisters played. From raising the bar of women’s tennis with their performance to raising their voices on the matter of equal pay.
