Kalinskaya, after losing the first set 6-2 against Hibino, came out stronger than ever to claim the second set with 6-4. And while everyone thought it was the end of her Grass Court season, Kalinskaya came from behind to snatch victory from the Japanese’s hands. She claimed the third set with relative ease at 6-2.

The Russian have had an impressive run since the beginning of the year. The 24-year-old surprised the tennis fans at the Dubai Duty-free tennis championship. She crushed Coco Gauff to advance to the semifinals of the tournament, after coming out of a long hiatus. And would be eager to keep the momentum alive to give herself a chance at the Wimbledon trophy. However, she needs to stay injury-free to avoid a repeat of last year in London.

Would past come to haunt Anna Kalinskaya after this injury scare?

The Wimbledon Open is the favorite major of the Russian tennis Star. Unfortunately, due to an injury last year she had to withdraw from the Grass Slam. But it wasn’t just the London that she missed, but also the French Open in 2023. And it seems time has done a full circle for Kalinskaya. The back injury scares have watered down her hopes of reaching the main draw. And has brought the fears back of a repeat of last year.

The Russian is yet to win even a single match at the Wimbledon. She has played the Grass Slam twice before, however, suffered from a first-round exit in 2019 and again in 2021. As Wimbledon 2024 approaches, she would like to break her first-round jinx. Certainly, tennis fans would love to see the emergence of another power couple on the tennis circuit. Jannik Sinner would be eager to pay back Carlos Alcaraz for the French Open loss.
