The 23 Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, is among some of the best female athletes in the United States. The American tennis icon started her stellar tennis journey at the very age of 14. Another popular American female tennis player, Jennifer Capriati, started her journey when she was very young. Like her compatriot Williams, Capriati also won a Grand Slam.
However, the former tennis player once struggled with depression after she faced injuries during her tennis journey. It was her compatriot and rival, Williams, who advised Capriati during her dark phase.

The 3 Grand Slam title winner once talked about her struggles with depression as she felt abandoned when she was injured. Capriati further stated that she was very disappointed with her agency and the United States Tennis Association. She added that they made her feel abandoned during the dark phase of her tennis journey.
It surprised Serena Williams when she heard about her struggles and her disappointment with the United States Tennis Association. Williams also stated that she had no idea about Capriati’s feelings of abandonment. The 23 Grand Slam champion went on to say, “But that’s why for me I’ve always done different things. You can only play tennis for so long.”

The former American tennis player once received a piece of advice from Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams. Richard once stated that Capriati should not be involved in verbal barbs on the court during her matches. He further added that the 3 Grand Slam champion should also listen to her father’s advice more.

However, Capriati was furious after she heard about Richard Williams’ opinion on her game. The former tennis player further stated that those remarks sounded disrespectful to her. Capriati went on to say that she doesn’t need any advice from Serena Williams’ father. She added that Richard should rather concentrate on his daughters’ game on the court.
