WWE has been a dominant force in the pro wrestling industry. Even though a lot of promotions came up, not many could match the global impact of WWE. Various promotions like TNA Impact and NJPW have tried their hand at replicating the Stamford-based promotion’s success. However, they didn’t find any notable success. But with the establishment of All Elite Wrestling in 2019, things have changed. Although AEW has still not overcome the massive shadow of the WWE. The wrestling community and critics believe that AEW can bridge the gap as it shows significant promise. This war to emerge victorious has pitted the wrestling promotions against each other. Recently, an analyst and talent scout of AEW decided to shed some light on the veritable war between the two promotions.

The war between WWE and AEW goes beyond….

On the recent episode of Hall of Fame Podcast with Booker T, Mark Henry was in conversation with the host Booker T and co-host Brad Gillmore. In the conversation, they touched on many topics such as Adam Copeland and his career, CM Punk, MJF, etc. However, one topic that piqued maximum interest was the ongoing war between WWE and AEW. Henry touched upon the topic and said that the context matters a lot.

He said, “There is no war. You know what the war is? The war is the ratings in your segment. People turn from your channel to another channel when you are on.” He went on to give examples of various moments when particular segments of different shows had a good rating. This also included the time when Booker T gained notoriety as King Booker and how it affected the ratings positively. He further added, “So that’s where the war is. The war is in the segments and the individuals”. This implied that more than the promotion, it’s the roster and the segments that have an impact on the ratings.

Mark Henry decided to give a better context in which the war between the promotions should be looked at. And connecting to the point of segments, he further shared the game plan for WWE NXT vs. AEW Dynamite.

Further talking about how things were at AEW before the clash, he said, “If I am the WWE, I don’t wanna be on the same night as AEW because I want all the attention. If I am AEW, I am not gonna move my show to a day that WWE is on unless I am pre-empted. That’s the whole point of AEW going to Tuesday is because we had to.” AEW was forced to move Dynamite on a Tuesday as that of their regular slot of Wednesday. This happened as TBS which broadcasts AEW was going to telecast MLB playoffs that week.

For that very reason, they decided to do an extravaganza digital campaign and even declared the first 30 minutes to be break-free. He concluded by saying, “I am telling you man it’s not a war like a lot of the reason things happen is because of programming notes and with the networks. That’s the only way you should be in a conversation.” This highlighted the fact that a lot is going on when two shows are being compared.
