Video Package: AEW showcases a video package dedicated to the late Brodie Lee. Lee’s proteges Preston Vance and Anna Jay would feature in the upcoming 8-man tag team match. The video was heart-touching and a cruel reminder that Lee was gone too soon and dearly missed by the AEW fanbase.

8 Man TagTeam Match: Lance Archer, Brian Cage, and Gates Of Agony vs. Orange Cassidy, Dustin Rhodes, Adam Copeland, and Preston Vance.

Winner: Orange Cassidy, Dustin Rhodes, Adam Copeland, and Preston Vance.

The second match of the night would be an explosive 8-man tag team match. This 8-man tag team match was your standard babyface vs. heels match. Meanwhile, the first half had the heels in control, with Cassidy isolated and beaten down. The match featured a ton of high-impact spots, with the action increasing as the match went on. The match also featured a ton of nods and tributes to Lee. The match saw its end as Copeland hit a spear on Kaun, followed by Lee’s iconic Lariat by Vance for the pin.

Backstage segment: We get a backstage interview by Renee Paquette with Bullet Club Gold. Jay White said that whatever the Undisputed Kingdom was doing, the Bang Bang Gang could do it better. The Acclaimed interrupted and talked about a team-up to claim all the AEW gold. This was a hint at the formation of a supergroup.

In-ring segment: Samoa Joe came down to the ring as this was his first appearance as the new AEW World Champion. We hear “Thank You Joe” chants, to which Joe replies that no thanks were needed. He talks about how if anyone wants a shot at the title, they need to meet with the Championship committee to see if they are worthy. If they are, they get an express pass for Joe to stomp them out in front of everyone, which gets a massive pop.

Swerve Strickland comes out with the Mogul Embassy. He tells Joe that it isn’t personal, but he will be taking the title off him this year. As Joe and Strickland face off, Adam Page comes out. Page talks about the insane year he had in 2023 and how he wants to top it. He recounts his Texas Death match with Jon Moxley and reuniting The Elite. With all this, he lost sight of the AEW World title. Now, in 2024, he wants it more than ever and doesn’t care who stands in his way.

Once they left, HOOK came out to the ring to announce his claim on the title. This proved that there were now three challengers for Joe to face to defend his title.

Backstage segment: Renee Paquette interviews Toni Storm, Luther, and Mariah May. They discussed the new signee, Deonna Purrazzo. Storm believed it was Wendi Richter, while May said that she had kicked her in the face during the last episode.

Starks tried to outsmart Guevara with a spear, which he dodged. This gave Guevara a chance to hit a thrust kick followed by a roll-up pin for the win.

Post-match: The two men shake hands, only for Big Bill to show up and lay Guevara out. Chris Jericho comes out and drops Bill with a codebreaker. The four men start a brawl.

One take at a time

My passion for professional wrestling began when I saw Kane ripping the Hell in a Cell door off in the iconic 1997 match. I used to enjoy watching WWE re-runs at 5 in the evening when I got home from school. It was sort of a ritual for me.
