The Casino battle Royal at AEW All Out saw a huge debut. Former WWE Star Evan Bourne (now going by Matt Sydal) entered as a surprise participant in the 21 man Casino Battle Royal.

Unfortunately for Sydal, his first move in AEW was a massive botch. The high flying Superstar was the 21st man to enter the fray. Obviously, he wanted to make an immediate impact.

That’s why he went for his iconic ‘Shooting Star Press,’ known as ‘Air Bourne’ in WWE. However, he completely botched his jump and fell just inches away from the turnbuckle, straight on his head.

Thankfully, the rest of the match was better for the former WWE Tag Team Champion. He showcased some athletic moves and eliminated a few men.

However, he couldn’t gain the victory as he was eliminated by the wild Eddie Kingston. Ultimately, Lance Archer emerged as the victor.

Where was Matt Sydal before his AEW debut?

Many WWE fans lose track of their favorite Superstars after they leave the company. However, there’s a thriving independent circuit that gives an opportunity to all these talented men and women.

Matt Sydal followed the same trajectory. Immediately after his WWE release, he returned to Ring of Honor. He competed in a few dream matches, including a series of iconic battles against ROH legend AJ Styles.

Post that, Sydal had runs in Impact Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Sydal had decent runs for both the companies. In Impact, he won the X-Division Championship.

While he had a lot more potential at Impact, an unfortunate injury derailed his momentum. On its part, Impact was going through a rebuilding process and couldn’t retain all its talents.

Now, All Elite Wrestling is his new home. Even though the roster is brimming with talent right now, it would be criminal if Sydal is not utilized. As Tony Khan recently said, a second show is in the pipeline.
