Former World Tag Team Champion Jack Perry has not appeared on AEW since their last All-In-London PPV at Wembley Stadium at the end of August. One of the favorites in the promotion, Jungle Boy, had been missing from television screens for a long time following his suspension following his backstage fight with CM Punk. And while fans awaited his return, he seems to have found his home elsewhere.

After losing his fight against HOOK on the pre-show, Perry made headlines after getting involved in an altercation with CM Punk backstage in the gorilla position. This led to a suspension for the ‘Jungle Boy’, whereas CM Punk was later terminated from the promotion after his fiasco with AEW President Tony Khan.

As a result of the incident, Jack Perry was suspended indefinitely, while CM Punk was ultimately terminated with cause because AEW President Tony Khan feared for his life. And while there were reports stating that his suspension had ended, it turns out he has decided to head in a different direction, as Perry has made his appearance in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

During NJPW’s Battle in the Valley PPV on Saturday, the team of Shota Umino, Jacob Fatu, and Fred Rosser teamed up to defeat Team Filthy’s Tom Lawlor, Jorel Nelson, and Royce Isaacs. Soon after the match, a masked man who came out of the crowd attacked Umino. And it was none other than Jack Perry.

However, this time Perry was sporting a beard and a black armband with the word “Scapegoat” on it, which is being speculated to be his new in-ring name. But the attack wasn’t enough for the Jungle Boy, as he went inside the ring to tear up his AEW contract in front of the crowd.

Fans connect the ‘Scapegoat’ to Perry’s history with CM Punk

The surprise attack sure did create a massive buzz, with social media flooded with tweets. But even there, fans couldn’t help but bring up CM Punk and claim it to be something related to ‘the Cult of Personality’. Here are some of the reactions:

A user claimed that CM Punk would find a way to take credit for Perry’s arc as a wrestler.

While another user thought that the Punk fiasco that led Perry to leave AEW was unfair.

A user speculated that this all could actually be a scripted narrative set up by Tony Khan and AEW.

Few users were glad that there were no chants for CM Punk as often witnessed. And they weren’t the only one surprised by it.
