After nearly a year, CM Punk is getting ready to make an in-ring return at AEW Collision. ‘The Best in the World’ is excited to have a match in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois at the United Center. Punk’s return match will be a six-man tag match teaming with FTR against Samoa Joe, Juice Robinson, and Jay White. However, as per a recent report the former two-time AEW World Champion has allegedly rejected a massive match against a former WWE star for the company’s second Forbidden Door PPV.

However, a recent report by Fightful said Punk has rejected a rumored match with NJPW star Kenta. There was anticipation over this match for a long time, but the ‘Voice of the Voiceless’ wasn’t interested in the same.

The report said, “Last week, Fightful Select reported that KENTA vs. CM Punk was the planned direction for AEW Forbidden Door. Shortly following that, we were told that Punk ‘wasn’t thrilled with working with KENTA and he may come across badly in an interview. However, there’s a lot more to this than meets the eye, and that might have been by design.”

Both Punk and Kenta aka Hideo Itami are former WWE superstars. Moreover, they use the same finishing move, i.e. ‘Go to Sleep’ GTS. This similarity in their finishing move made their match an interesting one for the wrestling world.

There is still a possibility that the match could happen though it may not be a straightforward thing if Punk has any reservations.

Nevertheless, Punk’s return will determine how fit and ready he is for his upcoming run in AEW. AEW Collision is just hours away and the Punk’s entrance will surely get a huge pop. Moreover, ahead of the show, the 44-year-old’s ESPN interview is also slated to drop anytime soon.

Possible topics Punk could cover in his ESPN interview

Ahead of his AEW return, Punk sat for an interview with ESPN. The former WWE Champion has reportedly covered several things in the interview. Fightful shared some details in the same report.

The report said, “Among those topics was The Elite, and word got back to several on the roster at the June 14 AEW Dynamite tapings, and some of it didn’t go over well based on second-hand reports of what Punk said, which could be seen as ‘his version of what is true.”

It added, “We’re told that AEW did set up the interview and monitored things, but that CM Punk spoke in a way that would blur the lines, and create buzz for upcoming shows.”
