The upcoming PLE Survivor Series will take place in Chicago on November 25, 2023. During Crown Jewel, WWE announced the return of War Games match for a second year running on the main roster.  Last year, WWE had its first War Games match on the main roster at Survivor Series involving The Bloodline.

While there have been hints about WWE doing a RAW vs. SmackDown theme for this year’s Survivor Series, this announcement means we will get a War Games match that could either be a RAW vs. SmackDown match or involve WWE’s two biggest factions, The Bloodline and The Judgment Day.

The PLE will be held at the Allstate Arena in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois. This will be the third Survivor Series to take place in that arena. The first and second were in 1989 and 2019. This will be the second Survivor Series PLE to include the War Games match concept.

History of War Games, a complete explanation

The War Games concept was created by Dusty Rhodes, the father of Cody Rhodes, in 1987. It was initially part of the National Wrestling Alliance and World Championship Wrestling’s PPV events. It was in 2017 that the WWE purchased the rights to the concept. Even AEW has its version of the match type, which is often showcased at their Blood and Guts PPV event.

The first WWE War Games was in 2017 with NXT TakeOver: War Games. This would lead to Survivor Series War Games in 2022, with both brands RAW and SmackDown competing. With all the different factions in the WWE today, fans are exicted to see who will prevail and who will fall.

One take at a time

My passion for professional wrestling began when I saw Kane ripping the Hell in a Cell door off in the iconic 1997 match. I used to enjoy watching WWE re-runs at 5 in the evening when I got home from school. It was sort of a ritual for me.
