WWE stars often have to work to be on the main roster. Those who aren’t already present on the main roster are working towards it while wrestling in WWE’s developmental brand, NXT. However, this trend undergoes some alteration at times. Even stars who are on the main roster appear on NXT on different occasions. It looks like WWE is building up a similar scenario for Ronda Rousey.

Until now, Rousey has been one of the more prominent names in the women’s division of WWE. She has won WWE titles on more than one occasion including the RAW and SmackDown Women’s championships. The current Women’s Tag Team Champion also recently acknowledged the fact that the women’s tag team division doesn’t stand as strong.

So, even though WWE is planning to uplift the same, she considers it a challenge for herself too. Being the champions in the division, Rousey and her partner Shayna Baszler wanted to be able to regularly defend their title.

It looks like WWE must have heard her desire for the same as they seem to be conducting some of Rousey’s future matches in NXT. According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is planning to get stars like Rousey to start working in NXT. The same source also iterated that this could also include her and Baszler defending their tag-team title.

The report stated, “There are plans for more major stars to work NXT like Rollins did this week. One name that was at least talked about was Rousey, or perhaps even having Rousey & Baszler defend the women’s tag titles there.”

While it will help the duo with more screen time, it will also help the developmental brand get more ratings and attention.

Rousey is not going to be alone in this quest, but more stars are scheduled to follow the same procedure as her. This idea came into existence after Seth Rollins‘ successful re-introduction in NXT on June 20th, 2023.

The true reason behind Ronda Rousey’s potential shift to NXT

While there can be a variety of reasons behind WWE’s potential plan to integrate main roster stars into NXT for frequent matches, WON suggests that Rollins is the reason behind it all. He became WWE’s Heavyweight Champion at the Night of Champions 2023. First WWE experimented with him by setting him up in a tag-team match right after he became the champion. Then, they brought him to NXT.

The WON report further states, “The goal is to use the main roster stars to increase the ratings, and the Rollins experiment was a huge success, so when something works in wrestling the idea is that you usually follow up on it.”

Rollins himself was excited about the emotional return he made to the developmental brand as WWE’s new Heavyweight Champion. However, some fans might still be skeptical of where WWE’s new plan would take the stars and the company. This could both be exciting and chartering into the unknown for WWE and its fans.
