LA Knight has an impressive rise to the top. In 2013, the “Megastar” tried to establish a career within WWE but failed as he was released from the promotion the next year. In the following years, he honed his wrestling and mic skills and returned to NXT again in February 2021. Since then, the top wrestler has only seen success, but he almost got fired multiple times.

In a recent interview, Shawn Michaels revealed how he saved Knight from being fired by the company multiple times. Michaels played a huge role in Knight’s success in the company by not letting him get released.

When Knight returned to NXT in 2021, he was 38 years old. Many people in the wrestling industry have a mindset that a wrestler has to hit their prime in their 20s or early 30s. Considering how Knight was still in the developmental brand at the time, the promotion wasn’t sure about whether he would be a good investment. On the contrary, HBK was by his side because he recognized his talent.

In a recent interview with ESPN, the WWE legend revealed that while the administration saw Knight’s ’38’ age as a lot, he didn’t care for it because Michaels hit his prime at the same age.

When people say a WWE guy or a Vince guy, he was f—ing it. I was trying to tell [them], lose the three-eight,” said HBK. The legend also added, “He never looked to me like he had any mileage on him. To me, he was still brand fricking new.” Not only did he think that Knight had the required skills to become a top star, but he also didn’t see him as a ‘worn off old guy’. For Michaels, LA Knight was as good as new.

In the same interview, it was revealed that there were several attempts to lay off the now “Megastar” but Michaels always kept him engaged in a storyline to prevent it from happening, saving the wrestler’s job as a result.

The general manager of NXT isn’t the only WWE personality who thinks LA Knight’s age is overshadowed by his talent. A former WWE writer holds the same view of him.
