In the current era, there is no one like Paul Heyman. The former executive has become a pivotal part of a pro wrestler’s life, so much so that whoever Heyman manages gets recognition of being a ‘Paul Heyman guy.’

Throughout his career, he has managed some of the biggest names in the business, including Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, Big Show, and Roman Reigns. The most interesting part of this is Heyman is known as the ‘advocate’ or ‘special counsel’ for the wrestler instead of a manager or valet.

This was a conscious choice from Heyman. Recently in an episode of ‘Out of Character,’ with Ryan Satin, Heyman said he wanted to be like the managerial roles similar to the old era. While doing so, he gave a tribute to his father, Richard S. Heyman, a prominent personal injury attorney and World War II veteran.

I paid homage to my father when I came back in 2012. (When) I called myself ‘the advocate’, Heyman said. “I was no longer Brock Lesnar’s agent, I was his advocate because I witnessed my father in court. My father was a personal injury attorney which is an advocate.”

He revealed, “When I came back in 2012, I said to Brock, “I hope it’s okay with you. I want to be your advocate. That’s who my father is, and I played my father in that role.”

“Like my father performing in front of a jury, and I perform in front of the jury of the audience in front of the WWE universe. So, that’s where ‘advocate’ comes from.”

Heyman also revealed that Vince McMahon also pays tribute to his father, Vincent K McMahon. Mr. McMahon wears ties very similar to the ones his father wore back in the day.

Paul Heyman could be in trouble on WWE SmackDown

Since last year’s SummerSlam, Heyman has served as the “special counsel” to WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Before that, he was the advocate to then-WWE Champion Brock Lesnar.

However, his counsel might be in jeopardy. At SummerSlam 2021, Brock Lesnar made his return to WWE right after Reigns defeated John Cena. It would be a challenge for Heyman to decide whom to offer his services to.
