“There are levels to it. They’re both right-wing ‘weirdos’ because they obviously vote based on what’s good for their pocketbook. I would say Dana is more generous. He does a lot of stuff for the fighters behind the scenes.”

Punk praised Dana White but did advocate for fighters deserving a higher pay. Similar to WWE superstars, UFC fighters cannot unionize either. Punk did not comment on Vince McMahon specifically, but it seemed pretty clear that he favoured Dana over Vince.
“That being said, I do think fighters should be paid a lot more. A lot of that time when he lashes out when people complain about pay and unionization, it’s because he knows, ‘I just gave that guy $250,000 under the table but can’t talk about it.’ They should still get paid more and the fighters should get together and unionize anyway. Just like the wrestlers.”

The issue of unionization has led to some supremely controversial decisions in 2020. Wrestlers in WWE are termed independent contractors, which means that they have to pay for their own medical bills in case of an injury. It also leaves them susceptible to being released if they aren’t able to compete for a certain amount of time.
CM Punk walked out of the company in 2014, citing that he was an ‘independent contractor’, which granted him the leeway to walk out. After he quit, he became a sort of advocate for wrestling unions.

He even commented on the issue of the Twitch ban. Punk condemned the treatment given to Zelina Vega, while Xavier Woods is openly campaigning to host G4, a gaming stream.
