CM Punk took to Instagram to share a clip on his IG story on December 17th. The original clip was uploaded on IG by WWE’s official account on December 17th as promotional material for Punk. The video consists of snippets from Punk’s previous run as a tag team performer. The video may be a tease towards a possible alignment with someone who is a former WWE World Champion.
CM Punk recalls a moment with a rare friend from WWE
The original video was uploaded with the caption, “⏪ @truekofi reflects on his time teaming with CM Punk” as WWE tagged Kofi Kingston. In the video, Kingston says, “For me being in the ring with him, I got really lucky. We won championships and now we are traveling together. And now I’m getting all types of knowledge, from him. And watching him in the ring, I have the best seat in the house.”

Punk and Kingston teamed up in October of 2008 and won their only title against Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase. They were known for their contrasting styles as Punk was ruthless while Kingston was a high-flyer acrobatic performer. They lost the title to The Miz and John Morrison after a 47-day reign, eventually leading to the two parting ways but they still remained friends later on.

After Punk returned to WWE, he traveled to all the brands before deciding to stay at RAW. During this phase, he met his former tag-team partner Kofi Kingston backstage. The two shared a brief moment that was recorded and shared by WWE on their official accounts.

In the video, the two superstars could be heard having a fun candid moment that depicts that the two superstars are good friends. But is that true at all?

Despite a history with WWE, Kofi Kingston has no ill feelings on CM Punk
In an interview with Fightful, Kingston revealed about his relationship with Punk. He revealed that the have not been in touch for long but he considers Punk as a friend, a brother. He said, “To me, we spent so much time together, I’ll always consider him to be one of my brothers. He’s a guy that took me under his wing when he didn’t have to.”
Due to the moments spent in WWE, Kingston looks up to Punk as a mentor too. As revealed in his past interview, Punk would often guide a young Kingston during their tag team days. Despite Punk’s history with WWE, Kingston’s sentiments towards Punk were unaffected by the news. He further said, “So whatever happened between him and the company for him to feel the need to do that, I don’t know. That’s between him and the company, you know what I am saying?”
