WrestleMania 27 saw the huge return of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to WWE after a span of several years. The Rock would return as the host for the event and start a potential feud with John Cena in the process. The main event of the night saw The Miz defend his title against Cena, and The Rock interfere to hand over The Miz a victory.

This would lead to a match between Cena and The Rock at WrestleMania 28. However, prior to that, at Survivor Series 2011, Cena would face The Miz, and R-Truth, and choose Dwayne Johnson as his tag-team partner. Unfortunately, despite the star profile of the event, it saw a disappointing fate.

What disappointing fate did Survivor Series 2011 have? And whom did WWE authorities blame it on?

With the event hosting Dwayne Johnson’s first match in nearly eight years, the belief was that it would be a huge hit. However, it fell flat on its face, and the management decided to blame The Miz for it, instead of Cena or The Rock.

Bully Ray recently picked this issue up and slammed the creative. He said, “I asked Miz when he was with us a couple of weeks ago. ‘How the hell did you do it?’ And it’s because he looked at every opportunity like another opportunity to get back at the top. Like that Survivor Series main-event bomb.”

Ray continued, “There’s four guys in the match and blame one? Oh we can’t blame The Rock, can’t blame John Cena. Who are we gonna blame? We are gonna blame The Miz. Well, who booked the f*****g match? You did creative.”

The 52-year-old further continued, ” It would be so easy for The Miz to be so p****d off about that. That he would be like, ‘screw you people. I am walking.’ He took the shot, got knocked out to the bottom of the barrel. And worked his way back up. “

Despite this The Miz didn’t speak out and continued to do his work with his head down and remained a constant fixture in WWE programming, The entire failure of the event could be blamed on the haphazard buildup to the match but there were other factors as well.

With it being Johnson’s first match in years against Awesome Truth, the outcome was also expected. Creative failed to build the hype on this match, and instead, the blame fell on The Miz.

Did WWE have reason to blame The Miz for the outcome?

After WrestleMania 27, John Cena would face The Miz at Over the Limit, and defeat him for the WWE Championship. However, the PPV would only manage 140,000 buys, 73,000 buys than the previous year. However, at the next PPV of Capitol Punishment, Cena would face R-Truth, and it managed 18,000 more buys than the previous year.

The results were clear as water, and The Miz’s star power became questionable. The two events pitched Cena against both The Miz, and R-Truth, and the result was evident. Thus, after Survivor Series, WWE had enough reasons to put the blame on The Miz.
