Fox Sports first broke the news about John Cena’s upcoming return. The 16-time World Champion is going to return to SmackDown in September. The report was then confirmed by the official Twitter page of WWE. In addition to his return, John Cena is seemingly going to head to India for an upcoming live event, Superstar Spectacle. The show is slated to take place in Hyderabad on Friday, September 8. This would mark WWE’s first live event in India since 2017.

Anyway, news about John Cena’s imminent return has sparked curiosity among the WWE Universe. As mentioned, John Cena sometimes likes to throw on his wrestling gear and wrestle a match. In case you missed it, John Cena recently posted a picture of Gunther on his Instagram a few days ago. The reigning Intercontinental Champion is currently ruling the midcard division with an iron fist.

Could John Cena hand The Ring General his first defeat on the main roster? At this point, it’s uncertain if his return is tied to his potential match with Gunther. Nonetheless, it is certain that Cena will show up on SmackDown on September.

The Hollywood star was last seen in the squared circle in London at the Money in the Bank premium live event. Not only did he push for London to host a future WrestleMania, but he also delivered an Attitude Adjustment to Grayson Waller. It remains to be seen if Gunther is next on John Cena’s radar. Let’s not forget that Gunther has something that John Cena has never won in his entire career.

John Cena has never held the Intercontinental Championship

Despite being one of the most decorated wrestlers in WWE, John Cena has never won the Intercontinental Championship in his career. Even though Cena is a multi-time United States Champion, former tag team champion, and 16-time world champion, winning the Intercontinental Championship could add more value to his legendary wrestling resume.

However, at this juncture in his career, John Cena has nothing left to prove. It should also be noted that Cena still has a lot left in the tank,

despite an average match against Austin Theory at WrestleMania. But it is also true that Gunther would be one of Cena’s toughest opponents.
