Wrestlers in the 90s are known to have some of the most bizarre gimmicks. Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts has to be near the top of the list for unusual characters. He would proceed to the ring with a bag on his shoulder containing a snake and antagonize his challengers with his reptile friend. Legendary performer “Macho Man” Randy Savage was unfortunately one of those performers.

Fans still fondly remember the feud between Roberts and Savage in 1991. However, one of the most memorable moments of the feud was when King Cobra bit Savage’s left arm in the wrestling ring. And Roberts has now provided more insight into the atypical spot.

Jake Roberts reminisces about the memorable spot with Randy Savage

The WWE Hall of Famer recently interacted with VladTV podcast and discussed the segment with Savage in detail. He said, “King Cobra! Yeah, I hooked him up. Well, the first thing that happened was Savage came to me and said hey we’re doing this thing tonight man. He says are you sure that snake’s good? I’m like what do you mean? He’s like is the poison, did you have its poison taken out? And I’m like yeah man he’s straight.”

On being enquired whether Savage was scared about the moment in the ring, Roberts replied, “Oh yeah, he was losing his sh** man”.

Savage was commentating with Vince McMahon and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper during a taping of WWE Superstars when Roberts coerced him into the ring. And little did anyone else know what was about to go down. Unquestionably, the rivalry between two of the biggest names in the business is one of the very best to have come out of WWE.

Roberts and Savage were embroiled in an iconic rivalry

Roberts interrupted Savage’s kayfabe marriage with Miss Elizabeth at 1991 Summerslam by placing a snake in one of the gift boxes. That was the start of their feud which would continue into 1992.

The two legendary competitors would be involved in a match at Tuesday In Texas PPV which would be won by Savage. Roberts and Mr. Madness would come face to face again at the 1992 Royal Rumble match. Ric Flair ultimately emerged as the winner in the 30-men tussle.

Savage defeated Roberts in their final televised match at the Saturday Night Main Events.

Many iconic moments fill the history of WWE. And the King Cobra biting Macho Man Randy Savage’s arm is undoubtedly one of them. The moment instantly became a hit among fans but understandably gave Savage the chills. He was terrified as remarked by Jake Roberts. But once the cameras were rolling, Savage’s ultimate professionalism made the moment iconic.
