No other wrestler since the Attitude Era has been as successful as John Cena. The Champ was the company’s top superstar from the beginning of the 2000s to the PG Era. Like Dwayne Johnson, he eventually made a name for himself in Hollywood. Thus, he worked with several popular individuals, including Jackie Chan.

However, The Champ had the extremely unusual experience of collaborating with Chan to prepare for a film.

While speaking with ‘GQ’ in February of this year, just before the last three episodes of Peacemaker’s first season, said that he had a “weird depression” while he was shooting with him.

How did John Cena experience depression while he was preparing with Jackie Chan for the film?

In his interview with GQ, Cena talked about his diet and exercise routine in addition to other topics. Notably, he stated that he never skips an hour of physical weight training, which includes heavy workouts and powerlifting, while speaking about his exercise routine. He then does yoga for 40 minutes, which unquestionably helped him feel better.

Subsequently, he was asked when he began practicing yoga. Cena said that he did so when he was filming with Chan and that it first gave him feelings of depression. In his word, “I did a movie with Jackie Chan about three to four years ago and they could care less about how strong I was. They just wanted me to kick over my head, which was impossible.”

“I went over there to train with him for about three months and they stretched me like taffy, I immediately lost 20 pounds, which was very difficult for me. I even fell into a weird depression because it was like I’m losing everything that I worked on for 30 years!”

Jackie Chan is iconic for his performances in action films and martial arts films, where he can move rapidly and do any action with his body. Cena, on the other hand, had a huge physique for a long time, making it difficult for him to do the athletic tasks and exhibit the agility needed for Chan’s film. Later, as he started practicing yoga, he lost lbs in 3 months, which caused his depression about his weight loss.

Which film did Chan and Cena work on together?

Working with Chan is, indeed, a tremendous opportunity. But because he was getting leaner, it was at first worrisome for Cena. However, shortly after, he saw that his pain was less severe and that he had more flexibility, and what he initially mistook for depression turned out to be a life-altering event for him.

Talking about the film, they worked on ‘Project X- Traction’. However, the film was never released.
