Professional wrestling might get called ‘fake’ by people who refuse to follow it, but it is as real as any sport gets. As a matter of fact, it is harsher as evidenced by the sheer number of injuries wrestlers have gotten over the years. And the former Women’s SmackDown Champion Charlotte Flair is no different. The Queen has endured a host of injuries in her career but what happened to her at last week’s SmackDown was outright concerning.

The 37-year-old was seen holding her right leg when the match finished before shouting ‘My knee’ as referee Charles Robinson and medical personnel attended to her immediately. Although there was no clear diagnosis of the injury initially, PWInsider.com reported that it was fairly serious. But now as the further update emerged, it seems like it’s even more than that.

On the December 8 Tribute to the Troops episode of SmackDown, the 37-year-old squared off against Asuka in a one-on-one highly physical match. The two have shared the ring many a time together but this was different. During the commercial break, Flair went to the top rope trying to pull off a spot with her opponent standing in the corner. She seemingly lost her footing, falling on Asuka badly. The match shortly wrapped up and WWE officials rushed to attend Flair who was limping in clear agony.

It has been reported that it was a torn ACL and now the Queen will face another long hiatus of nine months before being ruling over the squared circle again.

But to everyone’s dismay, there is more to the misery. The recent report claimed that not only just a torn ACL, Flair has sustained three different knee injuries and the situation is much worse than it was originally believed.

The 14-time Women’s World Champion, therefore, is bound to miss many of the big events of next year’s calendar. Reports have alleged that Flair has 9 months on her hands but it could easily be taking longer off her career.

What lies ahead for The Queen?

The bruised star is scheduled to undergo surgery around the holidays. She even reacted to the news of her nine-month expected absence by tweeting a broken heart emoji.

She had taken significant time off during the course of last year due to her marriage and an array of other personal priorities. Now, in 2023,  she is on the verge of missing out on almost more than half of the coming year which includes the absence from the big PPVs like Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and most hopelessly the WrestleMania 40.

The earliest estimated time for her return could be in August 2024, around the time of the WWE Bash in Berlin Germany. We wish the wrestling royalty a speedy recovery and are looking forward to seeing her in her boots at the soonest.
