The golden era of WWE had some of the most promising and popular superstars of all time. Stars such as Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Andre the Giant, Ultimate Warrior, Ric Flair, and The Iron Sheik were the top guys then.

The iconic golden era comprised some of the company’s top feuds and moments. The rivalries between Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat, Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior, and Hulk Hogan vs Randy Savage, remain some of the most highly memorable feuds of all time.

Among all the reel-life rivalries, Hogan and Savage shared a sour relationship in real life as well. The duo shared a complicated bond, both on and off-screen. Although they once portrayed a team, they hardly were friends in real life. Macho Man had his insecurities involving Hogan and his wife, which ruined their relationship even more. When Miss Elizabeth filed for divorce from Savage, he openly blamed Hogan for it.

In 2003, Randy Savage attended an interview with ‘3 Guys Pickin‘. The interview witnessed Savage opening up on his feelings about The Hulkster. He went no holds barred and spilled bitter facts about Hogan during the segment. When asked about his “Be A Man” single and it’s dissing them towards Hulk Hogan, Savage replied in a calm tone.

Macho Man said, “Okay, here’s the situation. Right there a lot of people think that this is just like another match, promoting another but it’s not like that. This is I’m proposing the first real professional wrestling match of all time.” Savage then proceeded to give a little history on his track.

He stated, “In fact, a little history lesson. Two years ago, right before Christmas I challenged them for all the proceeds go to the children’s hospital in St.Petersburg, Florida. All the pay-per-view revenue, all merchandising. You know, nobody makes a dime, everything goes to the kids.” He then chided at Hogan for not accepting the match and instead, “he came up with thousand and a one reasons why not to wrestle the Macho Man Randy Savage.”

The entire revenue generated from the charity event would have gone to the children’s hospital. Savage was promoting the match for a noble cause, but Hogan did not oblige. The diss track comprised a line, ‘ I’m comin after you, you coward’. Savage explained, he himself donated $10,000 to the children’s hospital into the ‘Hulk Hogan coward fund’.

The Macho man then claimed that he would have done the music anyway because of his love for music. He then talked about his musical crew and they put together the album and the diss track. Savage stated, “Talking to DJ gorgeous George, I told him about my problem with with Hogan. He came over with a great idea. He said ‘Why don;t you diss him with a song?’ I said cool.”   

The Macho Man then concluded with a shot toward Hogan, “You know, keeping it real is what we’re all about, you know. What I mean, you guys seem to be down. That’s right, you know, get along that way. You know just when you get a spree go. You need to go into ego rehab. Check yourself in, dude. Man, you are out of control.”

Hogan and Randy Savage had a complicated relationship for various years. However, the two had reconciled shortly before Savage’s death.

Why did WWE fire Hulk Hogan?

They offered Hogan the role of Thunderlips in the Rocky Franchise. When discussed with Vince McMahon, the boss gave him an ultimatum. McMahon asked Hogan to drop the role or get sacked from the company.

However, Hogan took up the role of working alongside Sylvester Stallone and was in the process fired by Vince McMahon. After the film, Hogan would move to Japan and wrestle under NJPW for a few years. Eventually, he would be rehired by WWE and Vince McMahon Jr.
