Despite being a scripted sport, the impact WWE has over the fans is simply profound. The selling of an angle can be so convincing that it blurs the line between fantasy and reality sometimes. However, the overflowing emotion might sometimes reach up to such an extent that it comes out as a legitimate threat to the wrestler/wrestlers in real life.

Baron Corbin recently revealed a similar experience that he underwent during his tag team match against Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins back in 2019.

Although Corbin has been an underrated heel who continues playing lowkey characters on screen, his skill and moveset as a wrestler are subject to no question. One of the greatest examples of his cool maneuvers was the iconic finisher, End of Days. That said, it once left him in deep water in terms of being on the receiving end of fans’ chilling threats.

During Extreme Rules 2019, the then-Universal Champion Seth Rollins teamed up with the then-Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch to defend their titles against Corbin and Lacey Evans. The mixed tag team match saw Corbin ambushing Lynch with the fatal End of Days., denoting the rare example of male-female action in WWE.

Recalling those remarks, Corbin noted, ”… My Instagram messages and Twitter and all of those things. People were like, dude, I’m gonna stab you the next time I see you for what you did to Becky. I mean, if I get stabbed? Yeah, definitely arrest that guy. But like, yeah, cuz people, man, like people buy into what we do. Like, that’s the art of what we do. Can we suspend disbelief? Can we make people think what we’re doing is 100% real..”

However, the Lone Wolf took the heat as the praise.

Corbin was exceptionally well as a heel be it on NXT, Raw, or SmackDown. To him, the idea of maintaining the villainous aura is to trigger fans’ emotions to the highest of someone’s ability.

He explained that when he injured Lynch he stirred anger among most fans, with some even ready to beat him up despite being well aware of the fact that the entire segment was scripted. That’s what real success looks like for a heel star. So, the heat he received brought nothing but the satisfaction of a good sale to the 39-year-old.
