Talking about his return, Steve Austin said “I could. I’m not going to sit here and lobby for one, because that’d be silly, that’s a year away. A year in that business is like that (finger snap).”
Austin even mentioned that WWE approached him for WrestleMania 39. But unfortunately, he had to deny them because of some prior commitments. WWE legend said that he was not prepared for WrestleMania and if he’d stepped inside the ring without any preparation, then he wouldn’t be doing justice to himself and the crowd.
Austin said, “They asked me to be part of (WrestleMania) 39, they really did, and I couldn’t do it because…….We finished filming about five to seven days before WrestleMania 39. In a position they were going to put me in, which was going to be a big one, you can’t prepare for WrestleMania and do yourself justice or do that crowd justice.”
WrestleMania 38 was the last time when WWE Universe saw the 58-year-old WWE legend competing inside the ring. He wrestled after 19 years against the WWE superstar Kevin Owens.

Before their clash, Owens was told to go easy on Steve Austin. However, everyone left jaw-dropped when Austin showed that he could more than hold his own in the ring.

Austin also said that before the match, Owens was instructed to take care of him, but instead, he was “killing” Owens.
He said, “I was killing KO out there. I truly was. Ask him. I told him when we got to the back, ‘Man, I can’t believe you didn’t throw a receipt.’ He just laughed because his job was to take care of me. In the future, I’m not lobbying for it, but could anything happen? Yes. They always say, never say never.”
Steve Austin vs. Kevin Owens was a huge hit at Mania 38. That match didn’t only bring Austin back from retirement but also helped Kevin Owens to get a great push. While fans were expecting him at WrestleMania 39 as well, he had to turn them down.
