The infamous slap at the Academy Awards 2022 shook the world. Even now, the controversies entailed with it are still going on, as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is proceeding with the investigation and actions against Will Smith. Moreover, several people from various fields have reacted to the incident, including WWE Superstar John Cena.
‘The Prototype’ of WWE had said nothing regarding his opinion on the incident. Although he had posted a picture of the incident with no caption on his Instagram. However, ‘The Champ’ has finally shed some light on his viewpoint on the issue with some enlightening words.

John Cena on The Value of Apology and Forgiveness
It’s not usual to see someone committing a violent act on such a prestigious stage as the Oscars. Following a joke by presenter Chris Rock that offended Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith, he went up to the stage and slapped Rock. The joke was offending Jada’s hairstyle, comparing it to the look of Demi Moore in the 1997 movie G.I. Jane. Moreover, Smith shouted to the comedian to not talk about his wife.

Recently, Will Smith apologized to Chris Rock via Instagram. Following various reactions to Will Smith’s apology, Cena took to Twitter to express his opinion on the matter. He wrote, “To live with no apology is to live with no flaw. No flaw is no failure, no failure is perfection, no one is perfect. Embrace the powers of apology, forgiveness, empathy, and connection. Live.“

Beyond taking a side blaming or condoning one’s actions, Cena gives a deeper outlook into how the whole controversy must be healed. The Cenation Leader’ had also posted a picture on his Instagram page with no caption, which was a snap before the slap. Many fans in the comment section perceived the post as a ‘before’ shot of a tragedy.
Will Smith’s Apology and Reactions
Later on the 94th Academy Awards, Will Smith won the award for Best Actor. Moreover, Will Smith apologized to the Academy and his co-nominees while receiving the award.

Additionally, he posted an apology to Chris Rock on his Instagram. “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” the ‘King Richard’ actor wrote.

Chris Rock said that he is still processing what happened and at some point, he will talk about it. However, many WWE stars, including Hulk Hogan, Chris Jericho, Booker T, and Mick Foley, had reacted to the issue, not condoning Will Smith’s action. The Academy has filed for an official investigation and it is much possible for Will Smith to be banned from the next ceremony.
