Over the years, many superstars have left WWE. Some departed with a big smile on their faces, while others held a grudge against the promotion. Speaking of which, John Cena‘s ex-fiancee also left WWE officially this year. She hung up her boots for good in March. Yes, the superstar we are talking about here is Nikki Bella.

She and her sister, Brie Bella, didn’t renew their contracts with WWE after it ended earlier this year as they wanted to start a new chapter in their life. The Bella Twins gave several years to the promotion. But when they were about to leave WWE, they didn’t get proper treatment according to their latest podcast interview.

After their exit from WWE, The Bella Twins changed their names and dropped the surname Bella. It was because WWE seized the rights to use the surname Bella from them. Nikki Bella revealed this on Not Skinny Not Fat, saying that they didn’t even contact her or have any conversation with either of The Bella Twins before seizing their surnames.

She said, “We actually thought there was going to be a conversation like okay if you guys are resigning. Let’s talk about the name. Maybe when you do future projects, we take a percentage of the name. I’ll be honest, I got a lawyer letter four hours before my contract was ending and they were seizing it all.”

Nikki said that she likes to keep the letter in her office as a reminder of what she built for 20 years wasn’t even talked which was “upsetting” for her but now she can build something that can last for another 20 years.

Now The Bella Twins go by the name The Garcia Twins (Nikki Garcia and Brie Garcia). But why did they choose this surname?

After WWE forced Nikki and Brie to change their surname, they adopted the Garcia surname, which is their maiden name. The twin sisters were born to parents Jon Garcia and Kathy Colace. In an interview on LIVE with Kelly and Mark, they told why they particularly chose this name.

Nikki said that since they are no longer wrestlers and starting new careers as entrepreneurs and especially as mothers, they wanted to go back to their roots. Their father is Mexican and their mother is Italian, so to honor their family roots, they chose the Garcia surname.
