One half of a championship in the WWE is currently lying vacant. It became so after Sonya Deville tore her ACL and was set to be out for a substantial amount of time while recuperating from the injury. Deville and her partner, Chelsea Green, won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship on the July 17 episode of RAW by beating Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan. Deville’s absence forced Green to seek a new partner. And instead of going for a more conventional method, the 32-year-old chose to host an audition, #ChelseasGotTalent.

Fortunately, her call was met with responses from former and current WWE superstars. Here’s a look at the list, as shared by Green herself.

After a failed stint earlier, Green is currently enjoying an improved run in the WWE. Along with her performances, her fandom has also increased significantly. While she portrays a Karen gimmick, fans seem to have taken it well. Her plea reached to many people. But surprisingly, a male wrestler was one of the first to respond.

R-Truth, who has been entertaining the WWE Universe with his comic timing, came to Green’s rescue. While the contender needs to be a female, the 51-year-old didn’t pay heed. The former WWE United States Champion even said they can run the women’s division together!

R-Truth wasn’t the only man to audition. Green’s husband and former WWE superstar, Zack Ryder, who now goes by his real name, Matt Cardona, also sent his application. As Ryder, the pro wrestler was a crowd favorite and had a wonderful friendship with John Cena. The 16-time world champion once referred to Ryder as his Broski, in an infamous promo in 2012. In his audition tape, Cardona said that the two could be the first husband-wife tag team champions.

Apart from him, NXT talent Karmen Petrovic spoke about her being a fellow Canadian and her expertise with the Katana sword. Petrovich said she can speak six languages and has been to over 20 countries. Reacting to it, Green wrote: “submission by a fellow Canuck!? Immediately YES”.

A young girl, who identified as Colbie, also sent her tape. She did the backflip and split as proof of her talent, leaving the seeker impressed.

But did the WWE approve of Green’s method?

#ChelseasGotTalent could hit a roadblock

It is primary to get a clearance from the company that has you on its payroll, especially if you’re planning to do something that also involves the organization. By the looks of it, Green did not inform the promotion.

After she decided to host the audition and advocated a change in the name of the belt to Undisputed Unified World Heavyweight Women Tag Team Champion, it riled a WWE top brass.

Adam Pearce, WWE’s Director of Live Events, has termed the idea as one making “zero sense”. Part of his comment read, “I tried to articulate before your fleeing the scene due to the assertion that your “sparkling water has lost it’s sparkle”. 🤮”

So, it looks like the audition was a futile exercise after all. In reality, Green might have to relinquish her belt due to her partner’s medical condition. The promotion could, however, give her another chance, with a new partner, to jostle and win the belt.
