Losing to the rising superstar Austin Theory in his comeback match at the biggest event of the year was disheartening for John Cena fans. But with the most heartwarming entrance of the night, Cena won more hearts than he broke that night.

His gestures in the match and recent schedule in Hollywood gave the impression that this might be Cena’s last match. While it made an amazing moment for Theory and Cena got his moment in the spotlight once again, another 16-time world champion wants something different from Cena’s next return to WWE.

Ric Flair wants one thing from John Cena for his next return to WWE

On his podcast, To Be The Man, Ric Flair talked about the entire WrestleMania card. When he talked about the first match of the first night, he only had nice things to say about it. Flair didn’t critique seeing Cena lose after his comeback at the Showcase of the Immortals. Instead, he talked about how Theory could go places after this big win at such a huge event.

When his co-host, Conan asked The Nature Boy will Cena return to WWE again and Flair had this to say, “If they wanna bring him back for a shot at the title for the 17th time, I am about that all day long, but not just, that’s just my personal opinion.” Seeing Flair talk about someone else beating his legendary record is shocking as Flair took massive pride in it back in the day.

But if there is someone who could possibly break this record, it is only Cena. After tieing the record back in 2017 after defeating AJ Styles for the WWE Championship, Cena hasn’t been able to win it again in the past 6 years. But he did come close to it many times.

John Cena’s last attempt at breaking Flair’s historical record

The most popular time when Cena was about to break Flair’s record was his match with Seth Rollins at SummerSlam for the US and WWE World Championship where Rollins ended up making history. While Cena lost that match, he still had a few attempts after that.

In 2021, Cena came back to the WWE to confront the then-new Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. This time, against Theory as well, Cena had a chance to win another championship but lost. Will WWE give him another opportunity to break Flair’s record if and when he returns?
