“Manny Should Have Just Slapped Me”: Ric Flair Recalls Making a Mistake After Drinking All Night During His Final Match 6 Months Ago
Ric Flair had his last ever wrestling match at the age of 73. Although some die-hard fans are expecting him to keep showing up in cameos, Flair does not consider it ‘practical’ for his age. The WWE Hall of Famer was able to give himself an independent farewell match. The event took place on July 31, 2022.
This was an exciting sight for most wrestling fans. However, ever since the event has gotten over, Flair has continuously shared how it did not go as planned. Even recently, he recalled how bad he was feeling right before the match began.

Wrestlers are faced with several problems when they start training less than they used to. The most common issue they face in such a situation is weight fluctuations. In a recent podcast, Flair recalled the morning of the day of his final match. He began by mentioning that he drank all night long, the night before. The then 73-year-old woke up to check himself, weighing 222 lbs. Since this could’ve been a hurdle for his match, he decided to cut on the calorie intake for the rest of the day.

Flair noted that he was emotionally vulnerable due to the significantly huge calorie cut. However, he did not realize something was wrong until he got lightheaded right before the match. He recalled in the podcast, “So, I made the mistake of saying to Jay, ‘I don’t feel good.’” The reason why the WWE legend called it a ‘mistake’ is because of how it created panic in the room. Jay Lethal, along with everyone in the room, thought that he had a ‘heart-related issue’.
Andrade El Idolo was trying to keep Flair’s spirits up by being respectful to his father-in-law when he was almost knocked out. However, Flair wishes, “Manny should’ve just slapped me and said, ‘Get up, you old bastard.’”
Although cutting on food right before his last match was already a mistake, Flair regrets more than just one thing.

It is fairly common to have a few regrets in life. Ric Flair also joins the list of such people when it comes to his last match. Although the wrestler doesn’t regret his controversial promo, he certainly regrets not hydrating himself enough. The day of the match didn’t start quite well for the wrestler. The hangover combined with the calorie deficiency placed him in a vulnerable position.
Due to this, the Hall of Famer must have forgotten about hydrating himself because of how anxious he was feeling for his last match. Flair now recalls these little mistakes and wishes to do it all over again. Although he got the money that he wishes for, he believes he could have executed the match better and made the farewell match even more memorable.
