Matt Hardy Continues to Fuel WWE Return Rumors With Curious 21-Year-Old Reference Ahead of WrestleMania XL

With WrestleMania 40 drawing closer, the rumors behind some superstars’ appearances are growing bigger. Matt Hardy is also on the same list. Ever since the reports about his AEW contract expiring in March came out, fans have been speculating that he will sign with WWE to return to the promotion at WrestleMania 40.

While there have been no confirmations regarding the same, Hardy is not making it easy on his fans either. The wrestling legend is teasing the possibility of coming back to his former workplace and keeping everyone on edge. Just recently, he took to social media to remind his fans of the ongoing rumor.

After it was publicly reported that Hardy’s AEW contract was coming to an end this March, fans were worried that the legendary performer would retire following the end of the deal. Against this background, someone asked him on X (Twitter) to answer this query. Hardy replied by claiming that this was not the end of his wrestling career. Several fans then urged him to join WWE for one last run.

Now, Hardy also seems to be on board with the WWE return rumor. He recently took to Instagram to upload a video on the 18th of March. This was a throwback to his time in the Stamford-based company 21 years ago.

The video is from 03/18/2003 where the older Hardy brother wrestled against Nova at WWE Velocity #44 in Louisville, Kentucky. He wrote in the caption, “21 years ago today, says the ‘net…’” The clip shows the wrestler pinning down Nova to bag the win for himself as the crowd goes wild in the background.

Considering the current contract situation with Tony Khan, this could be a hint that Matt Hardy is giving us before he shows up at Mania this year. However, this is not the only sign out there on the internet pointing towards a Hardy return.

Internet algorithm promotes the Hardys’ WWE return speculations

Ever since the rumors of Jeff Hardy and his brother’s probable WWE return have been going around the internet, the social media algorithm has also seemed to pick up the same trail. A few days ago, WWE’s tweet from the year 2008 was resurfacing on the internet. In that tweet, the promotion was promoting one of Matt Hardy’s spots.

This resurfacing tweet caught the eyes of several fans online. Rap icon Ice Cube’s son was also one of the fans who was hooked by this strange incident. As a result, the hip-hop superstar’s son quoted the tweet and talked about how he was intrigued to see the algorithm act in favor of the fanbase right now.
