Tony Khan receives a lot of criticism about his way of managing AEW and booking the shows. However, a WWE legend recently empathized with Khan, given the situation he is in. Although he didn’t name-drop anyone, Matt Hardy revealed what goes on inside the wrestling company when it comes to creative decisions.

As a WWE veteran, Hardy has experienced how both promotions handle creative differences. According to him, talents over at AEW often exploit the 41-year-old CEO by avoiding TV time and sitting at home. Through his words, he drew a distinct line between WWE and AEW based on how they deal with creative differences.

During the recent episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the interviewer asked the multiple-time tag team champion about the ways of treating creative differences in both promotions. At first, they discussed the Stamford-based company. Hardy agreed that in WWE, solving creative differences starts with the writer. Moreover, the conversation ultimately ends with the creative head having a final say. However, according to Hardy, AEW works completely differently.

During the recent episode, Hardy revealed what it means to think differently than the plans they have outlined for you. The 49-year-old himself doesn’t have much trouble complying with the idea given to him. However, those who don’t like the idea assigned to them often straight up refuse to do it.

“There are guys who have had ideas given to them by Tony, that they didn’t necessarily like and they didn’t do them, because I guess they didn’t want to. There’s been times where guys have been home and we know had seen someone in a while say, ‘Oh well, you know creative differences’. So, I guess they’ll hang out and be off TV until they figure out something that they really like,” said Hardy.

This proves problematic for the CEO because these talents rake in the money, irrespective of whether they are working or not. Hardy also said that he has never had an argument with any creative idea that he didn’t like much, despite receiving “some crazy creative ideas.” It seems the situation plays out a little differently in AEW for some talents.

Tony Khan has had a rough year or so when it comes to handling talents. First, there was the infamous brawl out last year in September between CM Punk and the EVPs of the company, The Elite. Then in August this year, AEW’s biggest-ever show All In was overshadowed by yet another backstage issue between Punk and Jack Perry.

This situation in AEW is not that new to the wrestling industry veterans. In fact, another former WWE employee voiced out his thoughts in support of Tony Khan a few weeks ago.

Tony Khan receives sympathy from an industry veteran

During an episode of his podcast 83 Weeks a while ago, Eric Bischoff shared his thoughts on the troubles that Khan has gone through in AEW. Although he sympathized with the CEO, he also put emphasis on the fact that perhaps he should be stricter in handling his talents. Briefing the reason why “AEW is out of control,” Bischoff said,

“At a certain point in time you got to just draw a line saying ‘F*ck it dude. Here’s how this is gonna work and if you don’t like it, take a walk. Here’s the terms of your contracts, here’s how your contract’s going to work. If you don’t like it, I’ll cut you loose. Or if you breach that contract, I’ll take you to court’. At a certain point, you have to do that.”
