Being away from their respective sport due to injury can also be mentally painful for an athlete. A former MLB superstar was placed in a similar situation all the way back in 1992. While John Kruk‘s date of recovery was pulling closer, his life decided to slow down the progress. In a turn of events, the baseball legend had to add an extra week to his recovery period.

The blame for the whole situation lies on the late WWE wrestler who was most popularly known as The Ultimate Warrior, according to Kruk. During his time in WWE, The Warrior met the MLB legend and immediately thought of extending a hand. This display of friendliness didn’t sit right with Kruk’s recovery.

The MLB legend has been a WWE star for a long time. So, it’s possible that he went to one of the shows as the audience. Because of his popularity, Kruk might have gotten access to meet the WWE stars of the time. However, this proved to be harmful to him because John Kruk was undergoing recovery for one of his shoulder surgeries during that time.

This happened sometime in the year 1992 when Kruk was signed with ‘Philadelphia Phillies’. In a recent podcast episode of ‘After the Bell’, Kruk told Corey Graves about the time The Ultimate Warrior slowed down his post surgery recovery progress.

He grabs my arm, ‘Hey John! How are you doing?! It’s been great,’ starts shaking my arm. I’m like ‘Oh dear God’. I had to go to the hospital and get restitched.

As a result, it slowed down the athlete’s recovery. He went on to add, “It slowed up my rehab process because now I had to wait. They had to restitch me, so I had to wait another week to get the stitches out.

In the same interview, Kruk also admitted that he was scared to join the WWE. If this incident wasn’t enough to add to the scary experience, he added another reason for rejecting a possible future in the pro wrestling industry.

For those of you who are unaware, Kruk has been a long-running pro wrestling fan. When in the same episode, Graves asked him for the reason responsible for not letting him join the pro wrestling industry, Kruk had an interesting reply. While the baseball legend credited his average height for the same, he also went on to discuss his fear of WWE legends owning him inside the ring.

By the time both these incidents happened, the Phillies’ color commentator was way deep into his baseball career. However, these may be the reasons why he never wanted to appear inside the ring even as a guest either.
