Using Old Dwayne Johnson and John Cena’s Rivalry Footage, WWE Pays Tribute to the Sudden Demise of 70-Year-Old Popular Comedian

Death is inevitable. Everyone knows it, but no one accepts it. Just a month ago, we lost the WWE legend, The Iron Shiek, and now a popular comedian legend recently left for his heavenly abode. The personality we are talking about is Pee-wee Herman aka Paul Reubens.

He has been a guest on the Monday Night Show in the past and shared the WWE screen with John Cena‘s then-rival, Dwayne Johnson. To honor the memories of the late comedic legend, the Stamford-based promotion shared an old clip from the 2010s. WWE via its WWEonFox Instagram handle posted a clip from WrestleMania XXVII which featured Herman and captioned it “Gone but never forgotten 🙏”. During a backstage segment at Mania in 2011, the late celebrity was a special guest at the event and appeared as Cena’s No.1 fan.

He shared the WWE screen with Johnson and “Mean” Gene Okerlund. ‘The Rock’ convinced him to join his ‘Team Bring It’ after he mocked the comedian for being a Cena fan. The ending segment saw Johnson being successful in convincing the late star to join his team.

Prior to that, Herman appeared on the November 1, 2010 edition of Monday Night Raw where he had hilarious interactions with The Miz and Big Show. It was also his very first appearance in the Stamford-based promotion, which later got him a Slammy Award for Guest Star Shining Moment of the Year.

Herman had been entertaining his fans and titillating people’s minds with his comedic disposition for the past five decades. It breaks our hearts to think that he is no longer present among us. Nevertheless, the comedic icon carried a heavy burden as he suffered from cancer.

Pee-wee Herman had cancer for the past six years

At 70 years old, Herman took his last breath on July 30, 2023, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The news of his sudden demise broke out via Facebook. Pee-wee Herman’s official page shared a heartfelt message to the late star as fans were informed of his death.

In the social media post, they also shared his last message to the world in which he revealed he had been suffering from cancer for the past six years. He began his note by asking for his fans’ forgiveness for not disclosing his illness to them before.

He expressed his gratitude to his friends, fans, and supporters, who always showered him with love and respect. At the end of his note, he confessed his love for his fans. Moreover, he mentioned that he enjoyed making art for his fans. Raised in Sarasota, Florida, Reubens, originally from Peekskill, New York, became renowned for his portrayal of the humorous man-child persona we call Pee-wee Herman.
