Real Reason Behind John Cena’s Evergreen Face Turn Explained

John Cena started off his wrestling career by serving a brief moment as a heel. However, the promotion didn’t take long before realizing that being a babyface suited him better. As a result, fans saw Cena turn into a ‘face’ that left a lasting impact on a generation of children who grew up watching him on television.

This impact that he had on the younger generation forced WWE to never experiment with the wrestler’s personality again. In his gimmick, Cena’s image among kids would have made it difficult for the promotion to handle a change like that.

Arn Anderson recently sat down in another episode of ARN alongside his co-host. Since Anderson has previously worked closely with John Cena, Paul Bromwell asked him whether he thinks WWE should have experimented with a heel turn on him once during his wrestling run.

Anderson immediately answered Bromwell’s question by saying, “No“. He then continued to give him more explanation as he moved forward with his point.

John, like, the grown males were jealous of him to a degree, but he had those kids. And when you have their trust, and you betray their trust, I think what you would’ve gotten would have been a disappointed group at John,” shared Anderson. He further added that WWE wouldn’t have made a profit out of this hate from fans, as Cena’s heel turn wouldn’t have been taken kindly by the fans who loved watching him as a babyface.

There could have been more dimensions to Cena’s heel turn than we realize. A WWE Hall of Famer once laid out how such an event could’ve been as, if not more, impactful as Hulk Hogan’s heel turn.

Although “The Cenation Leader” still remains a babyface to this day, we may not see a lot of him in the future because of the recent incidents in his life.

John Cena’s recent surgery and recovery

The WWE legend seemingly retired from wrestling after he lost his Crown Jewel match. Moving forward, there were reports about how Cena may appear far less on WWE than he did in 2023. One of the reasons behind this was that even though he didn’t go all the way inside the ring last year, Cena still ended up requiring surgery to be performed on each of his elbows.

As a result, he was also seen with a cast on his arm a few weeks later. While the surgery was reportedly successful in nature, we may see far less of him in the future. However, for the rest of the time that John Cena appears on WWE television, he will likely be a babyface.
